As a mom, it’s a constant challenge to stay on a nutritious and positive eating schedule, especially when it now comes to the kids menu. Sometimes it’s an easier option to grab that less than favorable snack they’re eating because it’s right there in front of you. An even easier solution to stay on track when it comes to snacks, is to get the kids on a healthier regimen and here are a couple of ideas to do that!
Healthy snacksGreek Yogurt with Fruit
Let the kids decide what type of fruit they always want to put in. This turns it into interactive, exploratory and fun for them. Not to mention you won’t just have to worry about the negative health benefits of cookies or fruit snacks that you’d normally give them after school. Do not forget to get the plain or non-fat plain Greek yogurt when you’re shopping, as it is higher in protein and will benefit you in more ways than one.

Make a Fruit/Vegetable Platter
It doesn’t have to be the holidays to have a fruit or vegetable platter in the house. Consider combining both so that you have a variety of different flavors available to snack on. Get the kids make their own mini fruit/vegetable platters on plates and make it into an art project. Getting them more involved in the creation and selection of healthier choices will not only benefit them, but you too. Consider a cup of berries, a plum, strawberries, grapes, kiwi, and apples. With younger kids, this is a great opportunity to teach them to not only make healthier choices, but colors as well.
Roasted Nuts
A really beneficial and fulfilling choice is nuts: almonds, cashews, walnuts, peanuts. Roast them in the oven with two tablespoons of olive or canola oil and you’ll find yourself occupied. If you’re in the mood, sprinkle a little bit of cinnamon or drizzle a little bit of line across the top. The kids will love these two because they’re quick and perfect for on the go!
